The fuorisalone events and pavilions are the ones that attract me the most and this particular area is among the best in terms of information and people watching. My research journey started with a first stop at God Save the Food for an incredible breakfast and one latte macchiato :) and after that, I entered Smart City, Superstudio Piu, via Tortona 27.
Smart City Pavilion: among the innovative projects regarding circularity, nano design, #designforlife and the use of space (from domestic to digital), some trends in today`s society are very evident: multiculturalism, the fluidization of experiences, the loss of security. Mixing all these ideas and you get a social scenario and ”future profile” in terms of jobs and human skills required to embody them with an impact on living, nutrition, transportation, and communication by 2025:
- Community connections facilitator
- Green activist and rethinker
- E-thical Co-user
- Neuro experience collector
- Medical consciousness promoter
- Bio sharing expert
- Connected prosumer
- Farmer in smart rural systems
Moving forward to a less conceptual future-oriented but a more problem-solving attribute of design I identified some action points emerging from this side of town:
- meaningful play experiences designed by Mini / Build by all, create a comfortable environment for the audience and build in the community.
- color consciousness design embodied every piece of furniture and experience at fuorisalone, showing how important is this aspect in people`s daily lifestyle choices.
- pretotyping is a simulation of a product ((neologism) The process of building pretotypes to test the viability of a product before attempting to actually prototype it - Wikipedia). Even though in some cases the simulation does not cross the line to production or even prototyping, it is an important step in designing: a pretotype is adaptable, changeable, and produces less damage to the planet. Pretotyping, Design Lab presented 4 #experiment products at Smart City: breathing shoe (made of biodegradable material that is patterned with microorganisms [...] over time, each shoe begins to take a custom look based on the activity profile of their users), deep learning insoles (silicone based disposable insoles that contain microbial cultures to monitor biochemical vitals that change during running or workout routines [...] provide the user with benchmarks to optimize their performance), adaptive packaging (is inflate-on-demand flexible packaging [...] can be designed for short or long-term usage by timing the degradation process using chemical inhibitors that are printed onto the material) and carbon eaters (microbially-activated stickers that respond to the CO2 in the environment by changing color to inform their users about the quality of the air around them) / powered by Biorealize.
